Cleaning historic material is an intervention. The objective is rarely to return a surface to an as-new appearance, and the decision about how far to clean belongs with the conservation team.

How heritage work differs

Heritage projects begin with understanding what should remain, not with selecting a cleaning method. Historic coatings, tool marks, original finishes, patina and evidence of previous restoration may all carry significance.

Where laser cleaning is technically appropriate, a representative trial panel is prepared and reviewed before any wider work is agreed.
