Industry

Oil & Gas

Aberdeen is an energy engineering city, and much of the surface work here is driven by maintenance cycles, inspection requirements and repair preparation rather than appearance.

Typical work

Work is most commonly carried out in workshops, fabrication facilities and yards, where the work area can be defined and controlled.

  • Corrosion removal from fabricated steel
  • Coating removal prior to repair or recoating
  • Component and assembly cleaning
  • Preparation for visual and non-destructive inspection
  • Cleaning of maintenance and refurbishment items

Inspection preparation

Removing corrosion products and coatings exposes the actual condition of the substrate. Where inspection is the objective, the cleaning specification is written around what the inspector needs to see rather than around a cosmetic finish.

Site requirements

Project-specific RAMS, COSHH assessments and method statements are produced for each project. Permit systems, isolation arrangements, fire controls and extraction are agreed with the site before mobilisation.

For hazardous or potentially explosive environments, work is subject to site-specific assessment and applicable client requirements.
